Opening concert of the MDR Music Summer 2022 with the MDR Symphony Orchestra

The MDR Symphony Orchestra opens the programme with Anton Bruckner's 4th Symphony, the "Romantic". MDR Music Summer 2022. Dennis Russell Davies conducts.

"You need patience for Bruckner," says Dennis Russell Davies. But if you have that patience, the treasures hidden in this music are truly enormous." There are few conductors like him who have performed all of Bruckner's symphonies in all available versions: "I had the opportunity to conduct every year in St Florian, where Bruckner was organist for several years and is also known to be buried. When you play his symphonies in this acoustic, you quickly learn what Bruckner actually wanted." At the opening of the MDR Music Summer, the Bruckner expert will dedicate himself to the "Romantic" Fourth Symphony: a majestic sound fresco including "forest noise" and "birdsong" (Bruckner), in which there are many treasures to be unearthed.
