Our Opening Hours

Like all other cultural institutions in Germany, the Vereinigte Domstifter have closed Merseburg Cathedral to visitor traffic since November 2 until presumably April 18, 2021. All events planned for the period have been cancelled. Scientific inquiries to the archives and libraries will, however, be guaranteed.

Church services also take place.

November to February

Monday to Saturday: 10 a.m.–4 p.m.
Sunday, religious holidays: 2 noon–4 p.m. 12.00–16.00 Uhr
24 December:
9 a.m.–12 noon
31 December: 9 a.m.–2 p.m.

We recommend allowing at least one hour for your visit. Arriving after 5.30 p.m. (3.30 p.m. in winter) will not allow you sufficient time to view all areas of the cathedral in a relaxed fashion.

Services and religious activities have priority in the cathedral. We hope you understand that opening hours and tour offers might vary due to weddings, baptisms or concert rehearsals. Maintenance of the cathedral and the organ might be spontaneously needed and, therefore, could cause acoustic disturbances of tours.
Current services at Merseburg Cathedral can be found under www.kirche-merseburg.de

We are grateful for your understanding in this.
