Um wertvolle originale Urkunden und Handschriften zu schützen, gibt es schon seit dem 9. Jahrhundert Kopialbücher, die Abschriften – also Kopien – der Originale enthalten. Manchmal müssen aber auch Kopien gerettet werden.
