Regularly, the KinderDomusMerseburch invites children and their families to a creative afternoon at the cathedral. Together we explore the secrets of the cathedral’s 1,000 years of history and go on an adventure into the world of the Middle Ages.

On 20 May, it's Family Day: "1,2,3. there's magic in Merseburg"

Does magic exist? Over 1000 years ago, people believed in miracles and placed great hope in the power of their words and the assistance of the gods. Merseburg Cathedral preserves a globally unique treasure from this period: the Merseburg spells, the only surviving pagan incantations in Germany. We go to the places where the spells were found and explain to the pupils how people lived, worked and spoke at that time. We also try out the mystical-sounding Old High German language ourselves and decipher the mysterious Carolingian minuscules. Who will join in the magic?
