One side of the medal shows an exterior view of Merseburg Cathedral. The other side shows the mitre of Merseburg Bishop Friedrich II von Hoym, which is currently on display in the cathedral as part of the exhibition "The Return of the Merseburg Cathedral Treasure". The mitre is the leitmotif of the festive year. It unites numerous themes that characterise the festive year: A cathedral can only be consecrated by a bishop. The mitre is an important liturgical garment for the bishop. The mitre of Bishop Friedrich II von Hoym dates back to the 14th century and is completely covered with gold thread and figurative depictions in colourful silk embroidery, including the two patron saints of Merseburg Cathedral: John the Baptist and Laurentius. The figurative depictions are also recognisable on the embossed medal. It is a great stroke of luck that the mitre can be displayed alongside other treasures from the Dresden Armoury at its place of origin, Merseburg Cathedral, to mark the anniversary of its consecration.

The special silver medal can be purchased in the cathedral shop of Merseburg Cathedral or at the Online shop of the Merseburg Cathedral.

The gold medal can be made on request. Interested parties can also contact the cathedral shop:
