On 1 October 1021 Merseburg Cathedral was consecrated. 1,000 years later, all of Merseburg honours this anniversary with a grand festival weekend.

Benefit concert "Messiah" by George Frideric Handel
The most famous hallelujah in music history resounds in Merseburg Cathedral at the end of the consecration festival. In a benefit concert, the Gaechinger Cantorey Stuttgart under the direction of Hans-Christoph Rademann will perform Georg Friedrich Händel's "Messiah". Tickets are available in advance from the Merseburg Tourist Information Centre or from the ticket portal eventim. The proceeds from the benefit concert will go towards the work of the Vereinigte Domstifter.
