St John's Day - patron saint's day of Merseburg Cathedral

St John's Day has a special significance for Merseburg: the cathedral, the city's main church, is dedicated to St John and St Lawrence.

To mark the occasion, the Protestant parish is celebrating a big St John's festival around 23 June and cordially invites you to attend!

10.00 a.m. Festive service to mark the 20th anniversary of St John's School with the performance of a musical. Guest: Senior Church Councillor Michael Lehmann, former Merseburg cathedral preacher.

24 June 2023 St John's festival

from 2.30 pm coffee and cake in the parish garden
approx. 4.00 pm Baptismal procession to Saale, infant and adult baptism there
18.00 Festive motet in the cathedral
from approx. 7.00 pm St John's night in the parish garden with bonfire, grilled sausage and live music

25 June 2023

10.00 a.m. Sunday service in the cathedral with Pastor Susanne Mahlke and Cantor Stefan Mücksch
