The Protestant parish of Merseburg invites you to a cantata service on the occasion of the 1st Advent.
It has become a tradition that J.S. Bach's Advent cantata "Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland (BWV 61)" is performed during the church service on the first day of Advent. Bach composed it during his time in Weimar, in 1714 at the age of 29. The cantata will be performed by four vocal and seven instrumental soloists under the direction of our cathedral organist Michael Schönheit. The Merseburg performance in the church service thus corresponds to the musical practice of Johann Sebastian Bach's time. The marvellous acoustics of the cathedral will do their part to make this a very special listening experience. Let us invite you!
