In 2025, the MDR Music Summer with concerts in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia enters its 34th edition. As part of this, the MDR Radio Choir will be performing in Merseburg Cathedral on Saturday 23 August under the direction of Philipp Ahmann and accompanied by Christian Schmitt on the organ.

Under the title "Farbenspiel 2", Jean Langlais (1907-1991) - "Messe solenelle", Francis Poulenc (1899-1963) - "Litanies à la Vierge Noire FP 82", as well as works by Maurice Duruflé, Camille Saint-Saëns and others will be performed.

The effects of French musical Romanticism are particularly evident in the sacred compositions of the early 20th century. Composers such as Francis Poulenc, Jean Langlais, Maurice Duruflé and Olivier Messiaen took up these traditions and transformed them ingeniously into their own creations. The colourful programme combines famous vocal works with music from the great French organ literature and allows the audience to revel in the impressive beauty of the sound.

Tickets are available via the MDR ticket shop .
