The Merseburg Cathedral Abbey Library - home of the Merseburg Magic Spells - opens its doors for the Night of Libraries. On this day, visitors can take a look inside the library's stacks and learn interesting details about the history of the library and its collection. They can find out how extensive the library's collection was in the Middle Ages and which topics were particularly popular.

An exhibition on the literary reception of the Merseburg Spells can be seen in the south cloister of Merseburg Cathedral. What impact did this Old High German text document have on modern authors and poets? The exhibition shows an impressive wealth of literature from the 19th to the 21st century that takes up the spells and reworks them in a modern way.

Visitors will be given guided tours of the magazine and south cloister. Please note that there is an admission charge of 9 euros. The guided tours take place at 6, 7 and 8 pm.

Access is via Domplatz 7 (Küsterhaus).

Registration for the guided tours via our Ticket shop or our Visitor Centre is urgently needed.

Under the motto "Knowledge.Share.Discover", small and large libraries, special libraries, public and academic libraries throughout Germany will open their doors on 4 April and invite people to discover the wide range of services offered by libraries. With the Night of Libraries, the German Library Association and its 16 regional associations want to draw attention to the wide range of services offered by libraries and invite people to experience their libraries in a new way.
