We open our treasure chamber for you. The magnificent works of art and magical exhibits bring legends and 1000 years of cathedral history to life. We show you treasures of unrivalled cultural value such as the "Merseburg Magic Spells", gems of late medieval art such as Cranach's Henry Altarpiece and reveal many a secret about the lives of emperors and kings such as the myths surrounding Thilo von Trotha or the mummified hand of Rudolf of Swabia.

The special tour also provides an insight into the special exhibition "Henry II and Merseburg". Emperor Henry II died on 13 July 1024. His name is associated in particular with the restitution of Merseburg as a bishopric in 1004 and its extensive endowment with valuable manuscripts. In recent years, new sources have come to light on the work and veneration of Henry II in Merseburg. These will be on display in the manuscript vault of Merseburg Cathedral from July to mark the 1000th anniversary of his death. As part of the commemorative year, two lectures in August and October will also illustrate the work of Henry II and present the "new" sources in more detail.

We recommend early booking via our Ticket shop or our Visitor Centre.
