Ecumenical pilgrimage service with the regional bishops Dr Gerhard Feige and Friedrich Kramer
Free of charge
The patrons of the festive year, Friedrich Kramer, Bishop of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany, and Dr Gerhard Feige, Bishop of the Diocese of Magdeburg, will organise a joint pilgrimage service. Pilgrims from the former Merseburg diocese are cordially invited to attend. For many hundreds of years, Merseburg Cathedral was the central episcopal church of the diocese of Merseburg and also encompassed large areas of today's Saxon regional church. We want to revitalise this 1000-year-old connection. All parishes in the area of the former diocese (and of course beyond) are cordially invited to make a pilgrimage to Merseburg for the consecration ceremony and to take part in the pilgrimage service. All information!

19.00 hrs | Merseburg Cathedral
Festive concert "Sounds from 1000 years"
Under the direction of cathedral organist Michael Schönheit, the festive concert will take you on a journey through 1000 years of cathedral history. From the Middle Ages through the Baroque, Classical and Romantic periods to contemporary music, Merseburg Cathedral has witnessed significant musical developments. Today, the magnificent Ladegast organ is known everywhere for its outstanding sound. In addition to the splendour of past eras, the concert also points to the future. A composition by Steffen Schleiermacher (*1960) will be premiered at the concert.
