Year1000Treasures of the 16th century

The 16th century is the greatest period of upheaval in Merseburg Cathedral. Bishop Thilo von Trotha's castle and cathedral buildings still characterise our view of pre-Reformation Merseburg to this day. However, the beginning of the Reformation brought with it enormous changes, including for the self-image of Merseburg Cathedral and the cathedral chapter. The exhibition project "Jahr1000Schätze im Merseburger Dom" (Year 1000 Treasures in Merseburg Cathedral) therefore presents two objects that emphasise this period of upheaval: the Merseburg Bishop's Chronicle (1136-1514), one of the most important sources for the pre-Reformation cathedral chapter's self-image, and an attendance board of the Merseburg cathedral chapter from the middle of the 16th century, which shows Catholic and Protestant canons.
