Sponsorships save treasures

Book sponsorships are now also possible in Merseburg and Naumburg

The archives and libraries of the United Cathedral Foundations in Merseburg, Naumburg and Zeitz harbour a great treasure trove of manuscripts, prints and archival materials. Due to their age and the sometimes poor storage conditions in the past, many items are endangered. Mould, pest damage and frequent use have taken their toll on the archive and library collections and only allow further use after thorough restoration. You can help to save the valuable collections and secure them permanently for posterity through sponsorship. Your name will be noted in a suitable place after restoration. Until now, these special book sponsorships were only possible in the Abbey Library in Zeitz, but now they are also possible in the Cathedral Abbey Archive in Merseburg and also in Naumburg. We will be happy to show you the collections concerned and make suggestions for individual volumes. Documents and files can be securely packaged with a donation of just 100 euros. The restoration of valuable printed books and manuscripts can cost up to 5000 euros. Documents and the associated seals can usually be saved at a cost of between 500 and 2000 euros.
