Year1000Treasures of the 15th century

The 15th century was a century of impressive continuity for Merseburg Cathedral. The three bishops Nicholas Lubich, John II Bose and Thilo von Trotha alone combined for 87 years of rule. Their proximity to the neighbouring Wettin dynasty as patron princes of the Hochstift Merseburg provided additional stability, as they supported each other in military campaigns and disputes. Continuity is also evident in one of the year 1000 treasures: a communion chalice from the time, which is still used by the cathedral congregation today. The cathedral chapter experienced a change in its economy in the 15th century. This can also be seen in the "Chartularium magnum" copybook, which we would also like to present to you.
