No consecration without a bishop, no cathedral without a consecration. Merseburg Cathedral was consecrated on 1 October 1021, 1000 years ago. Only a bishop can consecrate a cathedral. It was only through him that the cathedral became a true church and was placed under the protection of God. Nowadays, we have little idea of how a consecration took place and how important it is. To mark the anniversary year "Consecrated for eternity. 1000 years of the consecration of Merseburg Cathedral", the KinderDomusMerseburch therefore wants to familiarise schoolchildren with the significance of the consecration and the associated tasks of a bishop. The "Bishop's festive clothes" project can be experienced both on site in the cathedral and (due to the coronavirus) directly in the classrooms of Merseburg's primary schools.
You can find all information about the "Bishop's festive clothes" project here here.
