On 26 July, the Imperial Cathedral of Merseburg will be the venue for a very special hour of music and history. To celebrate the 1050th birthday of the famous chronicler Thietmar von Merseburg, the actor and narrator Udo Schenk (known to millions of viewers from the ARD series "In aller Freundschaft") and the ensemble Capella Antiqua will take the audience on an entertaining journey into the past centuries of powerful emperors and their clever wives.

In his role as chronicler "Thietmar von Merseburg", Udo Schenk wanders through the centuries, opening windows into long-forgotten times and allowing the audience to share in the special events of European history.

On more than 20 historical musical instruments, most of which come from the workshop of Andreas Spindler, the Capella Antiqua spans its musical arc from the Orient to the Occident and forms the sonorous foundation for these fascinating stories of rulers.

They were the most important emperors and kings and shaped the history of Europe for over 100 years: the Ottonians.

From King Henry I to Emperor Henry II, a unique arc of art and cultural history, of war and peace, of sagas and legends. But who were the strong women at their side?

As empresses, co-regents and political advisors, they defined their era. They are at the centre of the musical reading "Powerful emperors and their strong women"The musicians of the Capella Antiqua, the actor Udo Schenk and the Vereinigte Domstifter invite you to Merseburg.
