Influenced musically by his parents, he received violin and piano lessons at an early age and later also organ lessons. Even during his studies, he gave his own performances and concerts. In Merseburg, Stefan Mücksch endeavours to offer a wide range of music in church services and concerts and has very successfully founded the "Concert Series in the Merseburg City Church", which attracts hundreds of music lovers every year. As director of the Merseburg Cathedral Choir and the ensemble CANTIAMO - Junge Kantorei Merseburg, Stefan Mücksch repeatedly succeeds in preparing major oratorios and choral symphonic works and performing them as part of the concert series in the town church and cathedral as well as the Merseburg Organ Festival.
